Brett Favre will forever be remembered as a legend for the Green Bay Packers. While opinions may have changed about him over the years due to off-the-field incidents, he will forever be known as one of the biggest factors in turning around Green Bay’s organization in the 1990s.
Favre, however, has recently learned of some tough news that hit home for him.

Brett Favre Mourns The Diagnosis Of Hall of Fame Teammate
Favre took to Twitter (X) to mourn the news of former teammate Steve McMichael:
Tough news about Steve McMichael — prayers to his friends and family…
He was a great competitor and part of some strong teams including final year with Packers. Seeing what he dealt with, including having Stage 3 CTE, is a reminder of how serious this issue is.
I’m glad that player safety is improving and hope those affected by it can get help needed.

McMichael was diagnosed with CTE on Tuesday, one year after his passing. His brain was donated to Boston University CTE Center. McMichael’s wife released the following statement:
“Too many NFL players are developing ALS during life and diagnosed with CTE after death,” his wife, Misty McMichael, said in a statement released by the foundation. “I donated Steve’s brain to inspire new research into the link between them.”
McMichael was diagnosed with ALS in 2021. A devastating disease that directly impacts nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. It causes severe loss of muscle control. He passed away nearly one year ago to the date, on April 23rd, 2025 at the age of 67.
McMichael was drafted by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 1980 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. Following his rookie season the Patriots cut him and he would sign with the Chicago Bears. He would spend 13 years in Chicago dominating offensive lines week in and week out.
He ended his career in 1994 after one season with the Green Bay Packers.
