Blast off!
Young French star, Paul Seixas has done it again, for a second time in two days at Itzulia Basque Country performed an explosive solo high-mountain attack for another stage win and left him in control of the overall classification. He dropped the rest of the field seven kilometres from the top of the Category 1 ascent of San Miguel de Aralar and powered past the remnants of the breakaway.
Already victorious in the opening time trial, 24 hours later with the fast descent off the Aralar, the Decathlon CMA CGM rider soloed home with a 1:25 advantage over Mattias Skjelmose and. Primoz Roglic
It’s hard to see anyone stopping him.
“The biggest risk is being afraid to attack. The best defence is attack. I wasn’t afraid. What did I have to lose by trying? That’s what I love, the panache. After 2 or 3 minutes, I thought to my self that I might have started a bit too early and that it was going to be very long. But I managed to do it, it’s magnificent.
It was really this stage that seemed most suited to me to manage to create gaps and win this race. There are still 4 difficult stages left. Everything came together today. Winning with more than 1’ lead, that feels good.”
