MJF has weighed in on the political differences between AEW and WWE. Speaking on The Adam Friedland Show, MJF addressed the topic following a moment at a recent AEW event in Mexico where Brody King wore an “Abolish ICE” shirt on television and received “Fuck ICE” chants from the crowd during his match against MJF.
“We had a ‘Fuck ICE’ chant. What’s so cool about that is, in our company, our fans have a voice and in the other company, a lot of times, when fans curse or when they say something that they don’t want them to say, they just bleep it. They bleep the crowd entirely and they edit it out of the show or they’ll create fake crowd noise of it so you can’t hear the chants. I’ll also say, they’ve made a choice to be a little bit more right-leaning. Triple H has done a couple of speeches in the White House. Linda McMahon is in the cabinet. We are not affiliated to any party so anybody can feel comfortable going to our shows,” MJF said.
WWE’s ties to the Trump administration have been visible since the start of his second term. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon have made appearances at the White House, with Triple H serving on the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition. Linda McMahon currently serves in Trump’s Cabinet as United States Secretary of Education.
AEW President Tony Khan has previously stated that his wrestlers speak for themselves politically and that he supports that approach. It should be noted that the political views and associations of company leadership do not represent the views of every wrestler in any organization.
