Indiana’s 2026-27 roster will be rebuilt this spring by second-year coach Darian DeVries, who will navigate the portal with executive director of basketball Ryan Carr and the Hoosier coaching staff.
Inside the Hall will examine some of the prospects who could make sense for the Hoosiers to pursue out of the portal. Up next: Georgia Tech guard Jaeden Mustaf.
Previously: Markus Burton, Rowan Brumbaugh, Adam Olsen, Darren Harris, Aiden Sherrell
Numbers to know
55 career games at Georgia Tech: 9.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, two assists and 0.7 steals in 26.2 minutes per game. Mustaf shot 41.5 percent from the field, 37.2 percent on 3-pointers and 72.2 percent from the free-throw line. Mustaf has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Background and potential fit
A native of Bowie, Maryland, Jaeden Mustaf is a familiar name to some IU fans. The 6-foot-6, 210-pound wing was a recruiting target for the program out of high school by the former coaching staff led by Mike Woodson. Mustaf, who played at Overtime Elite in Atlanta, Georgia, ended up signing with Georgia Tech but did visit the Hoosiers as a high school prospect.
The No. 59 player nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings for 2024, Mustaf also considered Georgetown, Florida State, NC State and Maryland before choosing the Yellow Jackets.
Mustaf played for Boo Williams on the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) circuit, the same program that produced former IU wing Troy Williams. Kenny Johnson was heavily involved in recruiting Williams. Mustaf’s late father, Jerrod Mustaf, was a first-round NBA draft pick in 1990.
As a freshman, Mustaf appeared in 26 games at Georgia Tech, making 10 starts. He averaged 8.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists while shooting 39.3 percent from the field and 34.4 percent on 3s (32 attempts).
He took on a more significant role for a struggling Georgia Tech program this past season as a sophomore. Mustaf started 23 of the 29 games he appeared in under Damon Stoudamire and averaged 10.4 points, which was third on the team. He had 13 double-figure scoring games and had a pair of double-doubles. The best game of his career thus far came in his final outing at Georgia Tech, as he exploded for 28 points in a narrow 79-76 road loss at Clemson on March 7.
Stoudamire was fired at the end of the season and Mustaf is now in the transfer portal, looking for his next school. Indiana needs to get more athletic and better defensively on the wing. Mustaf does a good job of getting into the lane and getting to the free-throw line. He had the 10th-best free-throw rate (FTA/FGA) in the ACC last season at 49 percent and converted at a 72.7-percent clip from the stripe on the season.
Mustaf is expected to be on IU’s campus this weekend for a visit – per Jeff Rabjohns – and is a name to monitor closely as a potential roster addition.
