Hodgson Completes Initial Staff Build at Providence, Adding Stockwell and Grant – pcbb1917

Bryan Hodgson added two more familiar faces to his Providence staff on Friday, announcing the hirings of Martin Stockwell as director of player personnel and Jacqueline Grant as chief of staff. Both worked with Hodgson last season at South Florida, and one has known him since long before college basketball.

The additions bring Hodgson’s initial staff assembly to eight announced hires and these latest additions deepen what is already the defining characteristic of this staff: almost every person Hodgson has brought to Friartown worked alongside him at USF, Arkansas State, or both.

Marty Stockwell arrives in Providence as director of player development. Stockwell worked with Hodgson at South Florida last season. What separates him from a typical hire is the length of the relationship: Stockwell was Hodgson’s head coach at Jamestown High School in Jamestown, NY. That is not a recent professional connection. That is someone who has known Hodgson since before his college coaching career began. Stockwell was at Jamestown HS for 32 years including being the varsity basketball coach from 2000-2025. Stockwell “retired” from teaching and coaching and was hired by Hodgson last fall at USF as director of player personnel. Stockwell finished strong at Jamestown by taking the team to the state finals three out of the last fours years.

Jacqui Grant joins as chief of staff, also coming directly from USF. Grant played college basketball first at Illinois from 2013-2015 and then transferred to DePaul from 2015-2017 to play for Hall of Fame coach, Doug Bruno. She Played 54 games including 53 starts during her time in Illinois. Grant played 66 games, including four starts at depaul, led the Big East and blocked shots overall rebounds and defensive rebounds and was named Big East co-defensive player of the Year in 2017. For her career, Grant averaged 10.6 PPG and 6.6 RPG in 121 career games. After she was done playing, Grant was a graduate assistant at USF from 2017-2019 for the women’s team, served as DePaul’s video coordinator during the 2019–20 season, was an assistant coach at University of Nebraska-Omaha from 2020-2022. In August 2022 she returned to USF as Director of Basketball Administration and alumni engagement. That role acted as a liaison between the men’s and women’s basketball programs and senior athletic leadership. The role also worked closely with the external alumni relations department.

“Marty and Jacqui are extremely loyal and dedicated and it will be a tremendous benefit to our program having them on staff,” Hodgson said in a release announcing the hires.  “I have known Marty for many years.  His knowledge of the game and his experience will be very beneficial to the growth of our team.  Jacqui brings a unique skill set as former player who understands how we want our program to operate.”

Hodgson has now announced eight staff members at Providence: associate head coach/general manager Tee Butters, assistants Jamie Quarles, Derek Rongstad, Logan Ingram and Alex Harris, director of operations Tyler Pacheco, and now Stockwell and Grant. Every one of them worked with Hodgson at USF, with several having followed him from Arkansas State to Tampa before making this move to Providence. Hodgson As mentioned several times how much he values loyalty and believes head coaches should bring their staff With them to their next job and he’s living up to that word filling his staff at Providence he’s coached with at several different stops, including USF, Arkansas St Alabama, Buffalo and even his old high school coach.
