German-Ghanaian forward Salim Musah has thrust himself into the spotlight at Werder Bremen after scoring his first Bundesliga goal against RB Leipzig, putting in the kind of vibrant display that is hard to ignore.
Internally, the 20-year-old is now seen as a genuine contender for a bigger role, not just because of that strike but thanks to a series of convincing performances in recent weeks.
“Salim is a candidate for the starting eleven. He deserves it,” said head coach Daniel Thioune before the clash with Köln, while stressing that his development will still be managed carefully. For the moment, Musah is making a real impact from the bench, yet his training levels clearly show “that he wants more and is pulling at it”, exactly the kind of ambition the staff want to see from him.
Thioune noted that Musah is currently coping well with his role as a super-sub and that the club are wary of piling too much pressure on his shoulders too quickly. Bremen’s attacking options are growing, but Musah’s rise is giving head coach Daniel Thioune an increasingly tempting decision to make for his starting XI.
