- Impromptu request was made on recent podcast
US rugby star Ilona Maher has stunned the sporting world, by agreeing to a date with podcast host ‘Funny Marco’.
Maher, 29, had been discussing a wide range of topics with Marco on an episode of his Open Thoughts show – before the pair began discussing modern dating, and chivalry.
‘I do feel like like on the first date, when I’m with a guy, I do like to kind of set a precedent. I still think chivalry should be there,’ she said.
‘I think he should pay for the bill… and then after that… I pick up a lot. I’ve dated some broker men.
Her comments left Marco to feel he needed to interject.
‘I have a lot of money. Can we go on a date?’ he replied.

Maher agreed to the outing – but also produced a witty response.
‘Are you gonna walk out on me? Can I get spiked pink lemonade? That’s a lot of money,’ she said.
‘You got that?’
Maher’s love life has been discussed previously in years gone by.
In October 2024, she revealed all about what she’s looking for in a romantic partner, before stating she hadn’t been on a date in years at the time.
‘I’ve never really had somebody who’s come to my rugby games,’ she told People.
‘Somebody who’s really proud to see me shine and wants me to keep growing – someone who shows me off.’
Maher is an Olympic bronze medalist, and one of the most notable female rugby stars on the planet.
