The Gypsy King, though, fights once again at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to headline a Spencer Brown-promoted card in London against a fellow giant in Arslanbek Makhmudov — a literal, bear-wrestling madman from Russia.
While Fury will hope he’s shaken off any ring rust during his preparations in Thailand, he is in desperate need of a win considering his back-to-back defeats against Oleksandr Usyk in 2024, and in his last win, he got dropped by Francis Ngannou when the UFC champion made his debut in boxing. You have to go back another year to find Fury’s cleanest, most recent victory.
But Makhmudov’s pro ledger isn’t clean, either. He’s lost two in his last five fights and, though he enters the ring with a momentum boosting win over David Allen, he received criticism over a one-dimensional and one-paced performance.
Fury is also aware of the pressure he’s under because, he said, he watched Deontay Wilder’s win over Derek Chisora last weekend and felt only sadness at the lengths of which, he claimed, both fighters had fallen. He was left looking at his screen, openly wondering: “Am I next?”
