The Toxic Spider continues to make her web at the top of the AEW women’s division.
At AEW’s Dynasty event on Sunday, Thekla retained the AEW Women’s World Title against a former champion, Jamie Hayter. Prior to the match, a backstage segment between the Brawling Birds aired at their own personal bar. Alex Windsor was still physically hurting from her match earlier in the night against Marina Shafir. This is where Windsor retained the NJPW STRONG Women’s Title. Hayter chugged the rest of a beer before getting some encouraging words from Windsor.
The final moments of the match had Thekla spider walk into a spear attempt, but Hayter countered with a knee strike. Hayter was able to get in a backbreaker and went for a Hayterade, but the champion avoided it, coming off the ropes, so Hayter hoisted her up on her shoulders. A rake to the eyes of Hayter led to a roll up with a spider bridge. Thekla grabbed the ropes, where the referee couldn’t see, to keep Hayter down and get the three count and retain. Windsor came out to complain to the referee about what happened and joined Hayter in the ring as Triangle of Madness celebrated on the ramp. This marked Thekla’s fourth successful title defense since winning the title off of Kris Statlander on February 11.
During the post media scrum, Thekla discussed her re-signing with AEW.
“Well, it’s very obvious I’m a perfect fit for AEW. Also, the company needs me. Nobody’s ever done it like me. I’m a standout champion, so, AEW is the perfect platform for me to just grow and take over the world eventually.”
The rest of the women on the Dynasty card were on the Zero Hour pre-show. Two championship matches took place, while Kamille made her return.
