Rohit Sharma’s participation in the next IPL match against Punjab Kings at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday is subject to fitness clearance. The former India and Mumbai Indians captain had a scan at HN Reliance Hospital on Monday after he retired hurt on 19 during the MI versus Royal Challengers Bengaluru fixture here in Mumbai last evening. He left the field with his right hamstring heavily strapped and didn’t come out to bat again. It is learnt that MI physio Nitin Patel was with him during the assessment process at the hospital and the report will come by late evening today.
“The team physio is keeping an eye on Rohit’s injury,” said a source in the know. “We know all the matches are crucial for MI, especially home matches. But we don’t want to take any risks.”
RevSportz understands that Rohit might undergo some fitness drills during MI’s practice session on Tuesday and based on that a call would be taken as regards his participation in the Punjab Kings game.
“We have an Impact Player option as well,” he said. “If Ro is comfortable to bat, then we can use him as an impact player like last year.”
After winning against Kolkata Knight Riders, MI have lost their next three matches.
