San Francisco Giants vs Cincinnati Reds – April 14, 2026

The Cincinnati Reds begin the final leg of their current homestand at Great American Ball Park tonight. They are coming off of a series loss to the Los Angeles Angels and will welcome in another team from California, the San Francisco Giants. The Giants lost two of three over the weekend to the Orioles. First pitch this evening is set for 6:40pm ET.

Starting Lineups

Starting Pitchers

Brady Singer

It has been a tough year for Singer so far. His first start of the season he gave up three runs in 4.0 innings. The next time out he pitched well, giving up two runs over 5.0 innings to Texas. But last time out the Marlins roughed him up and had 10 hits in just 2.2 innings against him. Opponents have hit .382/.424/.618 against him through his three starts in 2026.

Last season his splits were quite big. Right-handed hitters didn’t do much of anything against him. Teams stacked left-handed hitters in their lineup when facing him, though. And those guys found a lot more success as they hit for a solid average, had a solid walk rate, and when they did get hits they showed a good amount of power. In 2025 he was better at home (3.29 ERA) than he was on the road (4.88 ERA).

Robbie Ray

In 2025 Ray made his second All-Star team – the second time in his career, and the first since 2017. He was not an All-Star in 2021 when he was the American League Cy Young award. Ray is out to a good start this season, allowing just four earned runs through his first three starts. In his most recent start he struck out seven batters in 6.2 innings of shutout baseball against the Phillies.

The platoon splits last season showed a sizeable difference for the two groups. Left-handed hitters hit just .188 against him, though they walked at a good rate. They didn’t hit for much power, though. Right-handed hitters had a much higher average, walked at a solid clip, and hit for more power. With that said, righties weren’t exactly successful against him – just more successful than lefties.

News and Notes

Roster moves

On the day off there were a few moves that were made. First is that the Reds traded Christian Encarnacion-Strand to the Baltimore Orioles for “cash considerations”. Then there were actual moves that you will notice tonight in the Reds game. Noelvi Marte was optioned to Triple-A and the team called up Rece Hinds. We got more information on that right here if you want to check into that.

Speaking of Rece Hinds

JJ Cooper at Baseball America wrote about just how improved Hinds has gotten since the start of 2025 when it comes to his ability to make contact and how it’s something that just about no one else has been able to improve so much on who were at a level of “non-contact” he had been at.

Elly De La Cruz with another first

The Reds infielder is the first shortstop since 1900 with at least five home runs and five stolen bases in his team’s first 16 games of the season.

Set your reminder….

Sunday’s game in Minnesota will be available to watch on Peacock. It comes included with your subscription if you have that. Just tossing this out there as an option for those who don’t have access to watch the game otherwise but do have Peacock.
