Philadelphia To Host Pre-U.S. Open WTA 125 Level Tournament

The Philadelphia Sisters™ and Topnotch Management said they are thrilled to announce the return of professional women’s tennis to Philadelphia as they plan to host a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 125 tournament this August. As the only U.S. stop on the WTA calendar the week before the U.S. Open, thePhiladelphia Tennis Classic will take place at the University of Pennsylvania’s Hamlin Tennis Center from August 23 to August 29, 2026.

Timed between the Cincinnati Open and the U.S. Open, the Philadelphia Tennis Classic offers a key stop for players preparing for one of the sport’s biggest stages. WTA 125 tournaments typically attract top 100 players, as well as those seeking match readiness or returning from injury. The tournament will award 125 WTA ranking points to the champion and $115,000 in total prize money. As one of only four WTA 125 events in the U.S., and the only one in the Mid-Atlantic, the tournament solidifies Philadelphia’s place on the global tennis calendar.

The announcement of the tournament builds on the momentum of the Philadelphia Sisters’ partnership that brought Unrivaled women’s basketball to the city in January, drawing a record-breaking 21,490 fans, underscoring the organization’s ability to deliver large-scale women’s sporting events to Philadelphia and beyond.

In preparation for the Philadelphia Tennis Classic, a temporary 1,200-seat Center Court will be constructed to accommodate the tournament’s scale and expected crowds. Tickets will go on sale in May and will be available for purchase through the Philadelphia Tennis Classic website.

Philadelphia has a long history of tennis as it hosted for many years the U.S. women’s championships, the modern-day U.S. Open, in the 18th century as well as the modern-day U.S. Open men’s singles championship from 1921-1923. It also was the long-time home of the U.S. Pro Championships on the men’s tour, which was seen as one of the premier events in tennis in the 1970s and 1980s. Back in 1915, Philadelphia lobbied hard to take the modern-day U.S. Open away from New York as you can read about here When Philadelphia Tried To Take US Open Tennis Away From New York – World Tennis Magazine
