SnowRunner celebrates over 20 million players
  • SnowRunner hits 20 million total player threshold
  • Switch 2 version available to pre-order

SnowRunner has just surpassed 20 million players, according to developer Saber Interactive.

The surprise hit of 2020 consistently sees thousands of regular players across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Mac, and Switch, with regular DLC map and vehicle packs keeping gameplay fresh.

The title is also boosted by a burgeoning modding scene, with players able to download approved custom content, even on console, with four-player co-operative play possible via crossplay.

Despite dropping ongoing support for Switch and Mac versions last year, Saber continues to focus heavily on its off-road sim, which garners more interest than its more recent direct successors, Expeditions: A MudRunner Game (2024) and RoadCraft (2025).

SnowRunner’s success can be partially attributed to its COVID-19 release window, with the game’s themes of isolation and exploration striking a chord with a player base facing government-enforced lockdowns that split families up for extended periods.

Not only that, but its deeply strategic off-roading mechanics also serve up a compelling challenge, with licensed content, such as the latest Mercedes-Benz Trucks deal last month, sustaining interest in the title.

In terms of the future path of the game, a Switch 2 iteration of SnowRunner is available to pre-order now, and, although a Year 6 Pass has yet to be announced, it feels like a formality considering its continued popularity.
