Sunrisers Hyderabad have made a key change early in IPL 2026, bringing in Sri Lankan pacer Dilshan Madushanka as a replacement for injured England bowler Brydon Carse.
Carse has been ruled out of the full season after picking up a right-hand injury during a net session. The incident happened just before SRH’s opening match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Injury Forces SRH to Act
SRH head coach Daniel Vettori initially hoped Carse would recover quickly. However, the injury took longer than expected to heal.
This delay forced the team management to look for a replacement, and they moved quickly to sign Madushanka for the rest of the season.
Madushanka joins the franchise at his base price of ₹75 lakh, making it a low-risk but promising addition for the Hyderabad side.
Madushanka’s Strengths
The 25-year-old left-arm pacer is known for his ability to swing the ball early in the innings. He can trouble batters in the powerplay with sharp movement and pace.
So far in his international career, Madushanka has picked up 70 wickets across formats, including ODIs and T20Is. His skills make him a useful option, especially on Indian pitches where early breakthroughs matter.
Still Waiting for IPL Debut
Interestingly, Madushanka is yet to play a match in the IPL. He was part of the Mumbai Indians squad in 2024 but missed the season due to a hamstring injury.
This time, he will be eager to finally make his debut and prove his value on the big stage.
Boost for SRH Pace Attack
Madushanka now joins fellow Sri Lankan Eshan Malinga in the SRH squad, adding depth to their pace attack.
The bowling unit is currently being led by stand-in captain Ishan Kishan, as regular skipper Pat Cummins continues his recovery from injury.
With a fresh signing and a point to prove, Madushanka could turn out to be an important player for SRH in the matches ahead.
