Packers Must Address Glaring Weakness During NFL Draft

The Packers have some big holes to fill during the NFL Draft.

Unfortunately for general manager Brian Gutekunst and Green Bay, the Packers won’t be going on the clock until the second round, barring some sort of blockbuster trade, after dealing away the franchise’s first-round pick as part of the package to acquire Micah Parsons from the Dallas Cowboys last summer.

For Gutekunst and the Packers, this year’s draft may hinge on adding a disruptive force to pair alongside Parsons.

NFL Draft: Packers need to bulk up defensive line depth

Over at PackersWire, Zach Kruse makes a compelling case that adding quality defensive line depth, with starter-upside is among Green Bay’s most pressing draft needs.

“Wyatt and Brooks are entering contract years,” Kruse writes. “And Hargrave’s contract is set up to be a one-year-and-we’ll-see deal. While Wyatt could get an extension, this position group needs more in terms of long-term stability. Adding one or even two rookie contracts to the mix makes a lot of roster-building sense.”

Green Bay Packers Coach Matt LaFleur, left, talks with General Manager Brian Gutekunst during practice on July 25, 2025, at Ray Nitschke Field in Ashwaubenon, Wis.

With the star power of Micah Parsons already secured, the focus now shifts to ensuring the engine room of the defense remains sustainable and deep.

Finding those foundational pieces on day two will be the ultimate test of Gutekunst’s ability to maximize value without the luxury of a first-round pick.
