Bicycle Mechanic

At JE James Cycles, we’re more than just a bike shop – we’re a passionate community of cyclists, mechanics, and retail specialists who’ve been inspiring riders for over 60 years. Our Chesterfield store is a key part of that legacy – a modern, well-stocked space full of the latest bikes, accessories, and expert guidance. We are now looking for a Bicycle Mechanic to support our retail workshop. This is a great opportunity to work hands-on with bikes every day – from new builds and safety checks to workshop repairs and dispatch preparation.

Responsibilities for this role include building new bikes to a high standard for display, sale, and dispatch. Perform safety checks and final inspections for mail-order bikes. Assist with repairs, servicing, and general maintenance in the Rotherham store workshop. Diagnose mechanical issues and provide solutions confidently. Support warehouse operations by preparing bikes for delivery or collection. Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workspace. Ensure accurate completion of all job cards and paperwork.

An integral position within the Specialized UK Retail Team; the Workshop Technician must excel at delivering service, working to timeframes, empathising with the riders needs and committed to deliver above targets for the workshop and store team.

What you’ll be doing day-to-day includes serving customers in-store, by phone and other digital communication tools. Building and checking bikes for display and prior to rider handover. Checking in riders’ bikes and repairing as per the job expectation. Processing warranty work, deliveries and stock transfers. Completing stock checks and accurately recording anomalies. General cleaning and maintenance of equipment. Professional and friendly conduct at all times. Completing any reasonable request made by leadership.

Senior Buyer

The Senior Buyer is responsible for managing the buying of goods and services for the organisation for their assigned product groups, ensuring that all buys align with budgetary and strategic requirements. This role involves working closely with suppliers, brands and internal stakeholders to optimise purchasing strategies, manage supplier relationships, negotiate prices and ensure the efficient flow of goods to meet the organisational needs. The Senior Buyer plays a key role in deciding the product selection, driving cost improvements, improving supplier performance and contributing to the overall business profitability by driving profitable growth by increasing market share.

Key responsibilities for this role include key category strategy development. Support the Category Lead with the developing the strategic plans and direction for specific product categories, including newness, innovation, pricing, supplier activity and product/brand selection. Analyse market trends, consumer behaviour and competitor activity to feed into the overall category strategy. Support the Category Lead and the Head of Commercial with alignment of key categories with the overall category strategy and with the overall business goals and objectives.

Product Selection and Assortment: Curate and manage the brand and product assortment within product groups, ensuring the right product mix to meet customer needs and preferences whilst also ensuring clear brand prioritisation internally. Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to deliver new products and negotiate favourable trading terms. Monitor product performance and make data-driven decisions to optimise the product offering.

Mechanic/Wheelbuilder

Harrogate, not only where the CTC began and host to the TdF and World Road Championships; it is also the home of Spa Cycles Ltd, one of the UK’s leading Touring Cycling specialists. We are currently looking to recruit a cycle Mechanic/Wheelbuilder in our fully-equipped workshop within our shop/warehouse premises. Whilst wheelbuilding ability would be desirable, we would also be pleased to consider a Mechanic who would like to gain these skills.

Responsibilities of the position include the assembly of custom-built bicycles and wheels. Identifying faults, damage and wear. Liaison with customers on bicycle and wheelset specifications. Advising customers on repairs, and carrying out repairs and servicing. Preparation of cost estimates for the above. Retail shop service.

The position is full time (40hr/wk) to include some Saturdays, although a job-share arrangement may be considered. We offer an attractive salary package commensurate with experience, the potential for overtime, 28 days pa paid holiday, a Company Pension Scheme and a generous staff discount programme.

Bike Mechanic

An exciting, rare opportunity has arisen for a skilled mechanic to join our amazing team, working in a dual capacity, not only on our high-quality Trek hire fleet but also working with our specialist workshop team, on customer bikes. This work will range from simple repairs to highly specialised work. You will gain extensive experience and knowledge working with both, our fleet and our highly renowned team.

The successful candidate will be a fun, engaging individual who is organised, experienced and great with people. The candidate must be qualified to a minimum Cytech Level 2, with previous experience role within a workshop environment. An eye for detail, an ability to analyse, report on and react to any issues, as well as an ability to bring structure and efficiency to the team are all desirable qualities in the ideal candidate.
