Hyderabad’s Stellar Display Secures Buchi Babu Trophy

After an exciting final, Hyderabad emerged victorious in the Buchi Babu Tournament 2024. Hyderabad defeated Chhattisgarh in a hotly contested final to win the championship.

Highlights Of The Match

On Wednesday, the final day of the summit match at the NPR College Ground, Hyderabad defeated Chhattisgarh by a margin of 243 runs to win the Take Sports-All India Buchi Babu Tournament. The team captained by Rahul Singh went into the fourth day of play in a strong position, having taken the all-important first-innings advantage and given Chhattisgarh an unlikely goal of 518 in 90 overs.

Nonetheless, Chhattisgarh did not surrender easily. The squad started blazing fast, led by openers Ayush Pandey (117, 134b, 13×4, 3×6), who smashed a stunning century, and Shashank Chandrakar (50, 45b, 6×4, 2×6). In just 103 balls, the opening duo stitched up a partnership of 100 runs. In the second over, Chandrakar made it obvious what he wanted to do. He took on pacer Kartikeya Kak and smashed him for two straight fours before driving him over the fine-leg boundary for a maximum.

In an attempt to rapidly attain his half-century, the right-handed hitter did not hold back and instead chose to take the aerial route against the spinners. Pandey would not be left behind, swiping the spinners for a flurry of boundaries. With quick reflexes, he lunged towards left-arm spinner Aniketh Reddy and smacked him for three consecutive sixes. Chhattisgarh scored 194 for five.

What Captain Has To Say?

Prior to their return to Elite Group for the forthcoming Ranji Trophy season, captain Rahul Radesh believes that the victory will instill a great deal of confidence in them. Furthermore, he praised his team for demonstrating resilience despite being behind at various game phases. Throughout the competition, he praised his team for playing with aggression.

“We wanted to play aggressive cricket and did it throughout the tournament. We did that in the Plate group last year, which was a bit easy, but we played against some good teams here. So that is a good sign for us ahead of the season,” said Rahul.

“In the semifinal against TN, we were on the backfoot after giving the lead, but we came back. We must win from behind because, in the Ranji Trophy, you will find yourself in similar situations, so you need to win such games,” the skipper further added.
