Former Formula 1 driver Jean Alesi has shared his personal assessment of the current generation of F1 talent, placing particular emphasis on two standout names at the very top of his ranking.
Jean Alesi, who remains closely connected to the sport and is well known for his long association with Ferrari, expressed strong admiration for Charles Leclerc, describing the Monegasque driver as one of the most complete talents on the modern grid.
“Charles is Charles,” Alesi said when asked about Leclerc’s place in Formula 1. “Charles is very high in the rating of the drivers for me.” – the Frenchman explained in a recent interview.
He went even further when comparing the elite level of current competitors, placing Leclerc alongside reigning world champion Max Verstappen as the benchmark for performance in Formula 1 today.
“Max and Charles are the top drivers for me,” Jean Alesi added, underlining his belief that the two represent the highest standard in terms of raw speed, race execution, and overall driving ability.
The comments highlight the growing recognition of Charles Leclerc as a consistent front-runner in Formula 1, especially as he continues to mature into a leadership role within Ferrari’s long-term project.
Max Verstappen, meanwhile, continues to be widely regarded as the benchmark of the current era, with multiple championships reinforcing his status at the top of the sport.
Jean Alesi’s remarks also reflect a broader consensus within the paddock, where both drivers are often seen as defining figures of modern Formula 1, each bringing a different style but similar levels of elite performance.
