Jannik Sinner’s chances of winning the Madrid Open title have received a serious boost.
Both Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic have withdrawn from the event, giving Sinner a simpler route to the Madrid title.
Of course, Sinner’s path is far from easy: he will compete for the title alongside the likes of Alexander Zverev, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Lorenzo Musetti.
Should the 24-year-old triumph in Madrid, he would become the only man in tennis history to win five consecutive Masters 1000 titles.

Sinner would also collect a significant sum of prize money.

Will Jannik Sinner win the Madrid Open?
With Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic absent from this year’s event, it seems likely that Jannik Sinner will win his first Madrid Open title.
Sinner’s biggest threat will be Alexander Zverev, who has a poor recent record against the Italian.
Sinner has won all of their last eight meetings on the Tour, dating back to the 2024 Cincinnati Masters.
Zverev’s last victory against Sinner came at the 2023 US Open. The German defeated Sinner 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in the fourth round.

The pair last contested a match at the 2026 Monte Carlo Open. Sinner defeated Zverev 6-1, 6-4 in the semi-finals.
“Well, you know, before matches, you never know how they turn out,” Sinner told reporters after the match. “But, you know, we know each other very well. I think it’s a very important part was to start the match in a very positive way, which I have done.
“You know, this gives you a little bit of freedom, you know, when you break up straightaway, and this aligns the match or also the dynamic in a different way. I’m very happy about that.
“Of course, I tried to keep going also in the second set. And, yeah, it was a very good performance from my side. Yeah, it was a good day [smiling].”
