The Australian PGA Championship will leave Queensland and return to Sydney in 2026, with The Lakes Golf Club confirmed as host for the first time since 1987.
The Australian PGA Championship will return to New South Wales in 2026, leaving Queensland after several successful editions and heading back to Sydney for the first time in nearly 30 years. The tournament will be played at The Lakes Golf Club from November 26–29, 2026, marking a significant geographic shift for one of Australian golf’s flagship events.
The move is the result of a new agreement between the PGA of Australia and the NSW Government, via Destination NSW, and comes as Royal Queensland Golf Club prepares for major upgrades ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.
The Lakes is no stranger to elite tournament golf, having previously hosted the Australian PGA Championship three times and eight Australian Opens, most recently in 2023. Its last staging of the PGA Championship came in 1987, while NSW last hosted the event in 1998, underlining the historical weight of the decision.
Beyond tradition, the return to Sydney carries broader strategic importance. The Australian PGA Championship has cemented itself as a global event through its co‑sanctioning with the DP World Tour and its role as the opening stop of the Race to Dubai season.
Organisers believe the Sydney setting will enhance international appeal, attract stronger fields and provide a significant boost to the NSW visitor economy, with estimates suggesting around 15,000 visitors and more than $10 million in economic impact.
