Alisson targeting return against Man United

With Alisson out injured, Mamardashvili has been playing between the posts for Liverpool over the last month.

However, the 25-year-old picked up a nasty wound on his left knee against Everton and is to now miss about three weeks, according to Geo Team who have close links to the Georgian.

As Vitezslav Jaros is also currently injured, Freddie Woodman is the goalkeeper expected to start Saturday’s match against Crystal Palace at Anfield, having played half an hour of the Merseyside derby.

Woodman’s spell in the side shouldn’t last long, however. The Athletic report that Alisson is targeting Liverpool’s trip to Old Trafford on May 3 for his return.

With arguably all of Liverpool’s best three goalkeepers out injured, Kornel Misciur and Armin Pecsi are the academy ‘keepers likely to be called up to the bench at Anfield this weekend.

The latter was unused substitute against Everton and both have made the squad on two other occasions this season. Meanwhile, 18-year-old Misciur has been on the bench six times in his young career.

Liverpool FC: On this day

While we are still celebrating Sunday’s late winner over Everton, April 20 gives us the chance to look back on another brilliant derby victory.

In 2016, Liverpool thrashed their neighbours 4-0 at Anfield as Divock Origi and Mamadou Sakho, playing his last match for the Reds, scored headed goals in the first half.

Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho added to the scoreline after the break, while Ramiro Funes Mori was sent off for a nasty tackle that injured the in-form Origi.

There was another derby day on this date, too, back in 1974 – though this one was considerably less exciting and finished in a goalless draw at Anfield.
