The longer the endless fall, the more rises. India, for better or worse is at the zenith of international cricket. However, it has also opened gates for unwarranted criticism against the country and unveiled how the growth of the game is viewed with an unfairness (only sometimes) that appears colonial in nature because India is leading.

Much has been said about BCCI with few contending whether cricketing board would promote Test cricket or shorten formats taking into consideration the success of IPL.

Sunil Gavaskar received such an innocent and uneducated response as to why he opposed all such vitriol towards Indian cricket.

“For some weird reason, there is an impression outside that BCCI does not want Test cricket,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar.

“You have a crazy idea. Every season they play more than five or six Test matches both home and away. BCCI is for batting but because IPL is too big it thinks that there is no interest in Tests; however, this is how international media shows it.”

Gavaskar also pointed out how biased they are in their view as well as talking about the discussions surrounding where International Cricket Council (ICC) World Test Championship will take place due to England’s rising chances of getting to the final after their successful run.

“The ICC just announced that WTC final will be held at Lord’s next June. Well, we have heard same statement before but when you realize England will not go to final then venue changes to Southampton or The Oval in London. Now they are saying it will be at Lord’s because England has won more Tests during this period and there are good chances that they may reach the final.”

Indian great’s words however had a tone plus a jab at English players where he cited an old Sufi Muslim saint’s statement by Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya Chisti saying “Dilli (Lord’s) abhi bhi door hai” which suggested how much time left before our team does appear at Lords.
