Liverpool have already learned one team they will face in next season’s Premier League – and one they won’t after Wolves‘ relegation was confirmed on Monday.
Wolves will play in the Championship next season after West Ham‘s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace confirmed relegation for Rob Edwards’ side.
They can no longer catch West Ham having taken just 17 points from 33 games so far – three of which came from their 2-1 win over Liverpool last month.
Liverpool are one of only three teams to lose to Wolves in this season’s Premier League, with the bottom-placed side also beating West Ham in January and Aston Villa in February.
Mathematically, nine other clubs are still at risk of relegation, but Burnley are almost certain to join Wolves in the drop along with one of Tottenham, West Ham or Nottingham Forest.
Replacing Wolves in the Premier League for next season are Coventry, who confirmed their promotion with a 1-1 draw with Blackburn at the weekend.
Frank Lampard’s side only need one more point to win the Championship and will return to the top flight for the first time since 2000/01.
Next season will mark their first clashes with Liverpool in 25 years, with the two sides last meeting at Highfield Road in April 2001, ending in a 2-0 win for Gerard Houllier‘s side.
Gary McAllister had a hand in both goals against his former club, first setting up Sami Hyypia’s opener from a corner and then clinching the victory with a free-kick late on.
Who else can be promoted to the 2026/27 Premier League?

There are still two spots up for grabs in next season’s Premier League with Ipswich, Millwall, Southampton and Middlesbrough all vying for second place and automatic promotion.
Ipswich are currently in control as they currently sit second having played a game fewer, but Kieran McKenna’s side have dropped points in their last two.
The three teams to miss out on the runner-up spot will enter the playoffs along with any of Hull, Wrexham, Derby or, least likely, Norwich.
This season’s Championship playoffs will see two semi-finals take place on May 8/9 and 11/12 before the final at Wembley on Saturday, May 23.
