Coach Mentor Launch
Table Tennis England are excited to be launching a new Coach Mentor role as part of our ongoing commitment to developing a strong, skilled and connected coaching workforce.
This new opportunity will see a team of Coach Mentors working across the country to support coaches at all stages of their journey, across community, club, talent and performance environments. The role will focus on providing high-quality, coach-centred support, helping coaches to reflect on their practice, develop their skills and align their delivery with the Table Tennis England Player Development Framework.
This will be a self-employed role, offering flexibility alongside the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the development of coaches and players across the sport.
We are looking for coaches who are passionate about developing others, able to build strong relationships and committed to creating positive, inclusive and high-quality coaching environments. This is an exciting step forward in strengthening our coaching network, and we look forward to sharing more details soon – and you can find out more here.
Senior National Championships Coaching Conference report
The recent Coaching Conference, set against the backdrop of the Mark Bates Ltd Senior National Championships, proved to be a fantastic and engaging event, bringing together coaches for a day of learning, collaboration and forward-thinking discussion.
The conference featured a range of sessions designed to support coaching development across all levels. One session focused on coaching players, exploring ways to improve engagement and retention, create positive learning environments and support progression from beginner to performance pathways aligned with the new Table Tennis England Player Development Framework.
Another session provided an overview of how data, video and technology can be used within coaching, highlighting approaches to performance analysis and enhancing the quality of feedback given to players. The conference concluded with a practical session exploring tactics and match strategy, focusing on developing tactical awareness, analysing opponents, and supporting decision-making under pressure, including in-match coaching situations. Coaches put theory into practice by observing live matches and discussing their observations.
A particularly impactful element of the day was the open discussion between coaches, allowing for the exchange of ideas, challenges and best practices in a collaborative environment. Overall, the conference was a great success and a positive step in strengthening the coaching network. The enthusiasm and engagement from all attendees made it a truly positive experience.

Coach Development: CPD in Action
The Coach Development Team continued to build momentum with more online CPD sessions this month.
- Evie Collier – Coach Learning and Development Manager, delivered an engaging session on Plyometrics
- Aad Kwakkelstein – Coach Development Officer, led a session on Coaching in the Community
Both sessions received positive feedback, and it’s great to see participation numbers continuing to grow steadily, which is an encouraging sign that coaches are investing in their own development.
Continuous Learning: Fitness & Cross-Sport Inspiration
Steve’s own personal development also played a big part this month with a visit to the International Fitness Convention at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
It was a full-on day with seven sessions back-to-back:
- Circuit training
- Two spin classes
- Pilates and yoga
- A new and innovative stick-based training session
- And finishing (somehow!) with another spin class
A tough day, but a valuable one. There’s always something to learn from other sports and the wider fitness industry. Whether it’s training methods, session design or delivery style, these experiences offer fresh ideas and perspectives that can be adapted into table tennis coaching.
