IU basketball included in first ESPN bracketology projection for 2027 NCAA tournament – Inside the Hall

The transfer portal closed on April 21, college basketball rosters are continuing to take shape and early projections for the 2026-27 season are being made.

ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi recently debuted his first 2027 NCAA tournament projections and included Indiana.

The Hoosiers have undergone a significant roster makeover this offseason after missing the NCAA tournament in year one of the Darian DeVries era.

Indiana currently has six transfer portal commitments, along with class of 2026 signees Prince-Alexander Moody, Vaughn Karvala and Trevor Manhertz.

Among the portal additions so far for IU: Jaeden Mustaf, Darren Harris, Markus Burton, Samet Yigitoglu, Aiden Sherrell and Bryce Lindsay.

In Lundari’s first projections, the Hoosiers are a No. 7 seed.

IU basketball missed the NCAA tournament last season under DeVries and has missed the last three NCAA tournament fields.

Dating back to the 2016-17 season, the Hoosiers have only made two of the previous nine March Madness fields.

Indiana is one of 11 Big Ten teams in these early projections. The other Big Ten teams included: Michigan (No. 1 seed), Michigan State (No. 1), Illinois (No. 2), Nebraska (No. 5), Purdue (No. 5), USC (No. 9), Ohio State (No. 9), UCLA (No. 9), Wisconsin (No. 9) and Iowa (No. 11).

The other projected No. 1 seeds are Duke and Florida.

Oregon is included in the “first four out.”
