PFLBelfast: Kelly vs. Wilson and UFC Fight Night: Burns vs. Malott were this past weekend and featured some exciting fights and finishes and a lot of decisions. Who won and who lost? Let’s get to the rundown.
PFL Belfast: Kelly vs. Wilson
GOOD- Dovletdzhan Yagshimuradov vs. Tyson Pedro
They trade strikes all throughout the first round until Yagshimuradov gets a takedown in the closing seconds. The second round begins with more of the same. Both men are striking well but Yagshimuradov is pulling away with his volume. The third round starts with still more of the same until Pedro drops Yagshimuradov repeatedly. Somehow he’s able to survive, though, and actually get a takedown. Yagshimuradov finishes the fight on top. We go to the judges to render their verdict.
Yagshimuradov wins the decision to improve to 26-8-1 while Pedro drops to 10-6. Good win for Yagshimuradov.
GOOD- Rhys McKee vs. Alex Lohore
They trade strikes for the first few minutes until Lohore gets a takedown. McKee is quickly back to his feet, though. Lohore takes him down again as the first round ends. The second round begins with both fighters landing strikes from all angles. Lohore gets another quick takedown and the second round ends. The third round starts with McKee dropping Lohore. They grapple for the rest of the fight, landing strikes and going for submissions. We go to the judges to render their verdict.
McKee wins the decision to improve to 15-7-1 while Lohore drops to 26-12. Good win for McKee.
GOOD- Jay-Jay Wilson stops Darragh Kelly
Wilson lands a strong kick to Kelly’s body followed by a big left hook that drops him. McKee pounces with hammerfists that force the referee to jump in to stop the fight thirty-seven seconds into the first round. Wow.
Wilson improves to 12-2 while Kelly is handed his first loss and drops to 9-1. Good win for Wilson.
UFC Fight Night: Burns vs. Malott
GOOD- Thiago Moises vs. Gauge Young
Moises goes for an immediate takedown but Young is against the fence so not much happens for a while. Eventually they separate and they trade strikes for a while until Moises succeeds in his takedown attempt this time. They grapple for the rest of the first round. The second round begins with strikes coming from all angles from both fighters. Young is pulling away with his volume and the second round ends. The third round starts with more of the same, as Young continues to batter Moises. Young drops Moises and begins showboating. Most men continue landing hard strikes and the fight ends. We go to the judges to render their verdict.
Young wins the decision to improve to 11-3 while Moises drops to 19-10. Good win for Young.
GOOD- Jasmine Jasudavicius vs. Karine Silva
Not much happens for the first few minutes. Then Jasudavicius gets a takedown and they grapple for the rest of the first round. It looked like the round ended earlier than it should have while Silva was in an advantageous position. The second round begins with not a lot happening. It seems these two are pretty evenly matched and neither wants to make a mistake. Jasudavicius gets a takedown and lands some light ground-and-pound until the second round ends. The third round starts with Jasudavisius getting an early takedown and the grappling match continues as each woman tries to set up a submission. This goes on for the whole round and the fight ends so we go to the judges to render their verdict.
Jasudavicius wins the decision to improve to 15-4 while Silva drops to 19-7. Good win for Jasudavicius.
GOOD- Jai Herbert stops Mandel Nallo
Nallo connects with some big kicks to the head early. Herbert is able to withstand them and fires back with a huge right hand that drops Nallo. Herbert pounces but Nallo survives and gets back to his feet. Herbert advances and knocks Nallo down again. Herbert pounces again with hammerfists and this time Nallo can’t continue so the referee jumps in to stop the fight just over two minutes into the first round. Wow, what a battle.
Herbert improves to 14-6-1 while Nallo drops to 14-4 with 1 No Contest and has his 5 fight winning streak snapped. Good win for Herbert.
GOOD- Kyler Phillips vs. Charles Jourdain
Phillips gets an early takedown but Jourdain fights back to his feet but Phillips takes him back down. They grapple for the rest of the first round except for right at the end when they stand and swing violently at each other. The second round begins with some striking exchanges until Phillips gets a takedown. Jourdain is fighting back with big punches and they’re swinging away at each other while also still grappling. They separate and are throwing and connecting with strikes from all angles for the rest of the second round. The third round starts with more fast-paced striking, as both men are swinging away with purpose. Phillips gets a takedown but Jourdain is quickly back up and gets a takedown of his own. As Phillips stands, Jourdain catches him with a knee to the head that gashes him harshly and Phillips is bleeding badly from his left eyebrow. That only spurs him on, though, and they keep battling until the fight ends. We go to the judges to render their verdict.
Jourdain wins the decision to improve to 18-8-1 and has won 3 straight fights while Phillips drops to 12-5 and has lost 3 straight fights. Good win for Jourdain.
GOOD- Mike Malott stops Gilbert Burns
They trade kicks early before mixing in punches. Neither man can get a takedown so they slug it out for the rest of the first round. The second round begins with Burns cracking Malott hard with a powerful leg kick. Both fighters are mixing up their strikes well and are doing damage, though Malott is doing more damage to Burns, and the second round ends. The third round starts with some striking before Malott backs Burns to the fence and nails him with a powerful uppercut and left hook that drops Burns. He’s right back up but only to get dropped again with a big right hand. Malott follows with punches that force the referee to jump in to stop the fight a little over two minutes into the third round.
Malott improves to 14-2-1 and has won 4 straight fights while Burns drops to 22-10 and has lost 5 straight fights. Good win for Malott.
Burns leaves his gloves in the cage to signal his retirement. If this is truly the end he leaves a good legacy of a tremendous grappling career and five post-fight bonuses. I wish him well in his retirement.

My new epic fantasy book is out. It’s called Kingdom of Zarias: The End’s Beginning. The exciting epic fantasy series Kingdom of Zarias returns with the 4th book in the series. After the harrowing events of Book 3 the residents of the Kingdom of Zarias continue on their paths. Serena Summers continues to learn and grow as a fighter, desperately seeking to become stronger before she loses anyone else in her life. Daniel Summers discovers new parts of the world that open his eyes to just how little he truly knows. A new hero, Lamar Abeers, arrives to join the fight against evil. Plus, Zach Summers, Tiana Highsmith, and Xavien Ekens continue their journeys with their friends, and a new ruler of Vhaharen is crowned. The world has found a little peace. However, that peace is only temporary. In a shocking act of violence, the monstrous villain Galren strikes from the shadows and changes the world forever. This is Book 4 in the series.
