Last week, I shared my cautious enthusiasm for the latest version of Chris Jericho the 55-year-old WWE and AEW legend has given us pro wrestling fans. What particularly gave me hope was Jericho appearing to poke fun at himself by filing to trademark one of the new gimmicks Ricochet suggested to him after winning their match at AEW’s Dynasty PPV.
Tonight (April 22) on Dynamite, in a segment continuing Jericho’s rivalry with Ricochet and his guys in The Demand, the Ayatollah of Rock ‘n’ Rolla revealed that he was indeed going to use Ric’s idea as his next character reinvention. In fact, he already got “the guy who gets his ass beat by The Demand every week that he shows up” shirts made!
The interview segment with Renee Paquette also featured more of Jericho’s subliminal comments and insults. schtick, advanced the idea he has no friends in AEW after all his old factions fell apart when the G.W.G.H.A.B.B.T.D.E.W.T.H.S.U. made them all about himself, and revealed a Collision trios match between Jericho and two partners of his choosing against The Demand.
Later in the show, Paquette went to check on her fellow Canadian. He was finishing up a business meeting with three men whose business is hurting people. Jericho and Montell Vontavious Porter remain okay after their past issues (probably agreed not to talk politics this time), and Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin will join the G.W.G.H.A.B.B.T.D.E.W.T.H.S.U. against Ricochet, Toa Liona, and Bishop Kaun Saturday on TNT.
