Scottish athletes across the country are preparing for this weekend’s London Marathon Events which will see Elite, Age Group and Youth athletes compete in one of the Nations most loved events.
The event kicks off on Saturday with the Mini Marathon, with Scottish teams in action, before the main Marathon race on Sunday which will play host to the British and Scottish Championships for the distance.
In the Elite Women’s race, Eilish McColgan will be looking to retain her British and Scottish Championships crown from 2025. Last year’s time of 2:24:25 also set a new Scottish record for the distance.
In the Men’s event, Weynay Ghebresilasie will also be looking to retain his Scottish Champion title, having received support from partners Joma in preparation for the race. He will face competition from Edinburgh AC’s Andrew Fyfe and Fife AC’s Charlie Sandison (racing for Hercules Wimbledon AC), who also go in the elite wave.
T54 athlete Sean Frame will compete in the Elite Wheelchair event, following a top 10 finish and PB (1:30:05) at the Boston Marathon earlier this week.
In the Scottish Championships, Katrina Ballantyne of Leeds (2nd Scot last year) is likely to be competitive, as well a Brogan Wallace (Shettleston), who was 4th Scot in 2025 and set a half marathon PB this year in Paris.
Dougie Selman (Corstorphine) will contend the Men’s race having finished as 3rd Scot in 2025, with Lewis Rodgers (Fife AC) also looking for a strong performance having finished 3rd at last month’s Scottish Half Marathon Championships.
Elite race coverage starts at 08:30 Sunday on BBC One.
Saturday’s Mini Marathon races will see 25 young athletes pull on a Scotland vest for this road racing opportunity (team lists below).
The event has proved a great stepping stone for many athletes who have gone on to senior representation, with Laura Muir and Josh Kerr both having previously competed at the event for Scotland.
Teams will compete at U18 and U16 level following our selections to represent Scotland.
You can watch the races live from 08:15 Saturday on BBC iPlayer or via London Marathon Events YouTube channel.
