Indianapolis, IN – The NCAA has announced today the decision from the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Tennis Oversight Committee to keep the NCAA Division I Singles and Doubles Championships in the fall on a permanent basis. With this decision coming after the completion of a two-year pilot program, Division I coaches showed overwhelming support to keep this iconic collegiate championship in the fall season when given the opportunity to provide feedback over the past two years.
“The ITA is pleased with the decision by the NCAA Oversight Committee to permanently move the NCAA Division I Singles & Doubles Championships to the fall,” stated ITA CEO, David Mullins. “This change will bring greater stability to the college tennis calendar while establishing a fair and transparent pathway to qualification and enhancing health and safety conditions for student-athletes to perform at their best.”
Mullins continued,
“I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our coaches and the ITA competitions staff for their hard work in designing and implementing the two-year fall pathway pilot. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with our coaches committees and the NCAA to further refine and strengthen the pathway in the years ahead.”
In the fall of 2026, the pathway to the NCAA Division I Individual Championships will remain consistent with what fans, coaches, and athletes have come to know during the two-year pilot program.
