The Pittsburgh Pirates have high hopes and big expectations for shortstop Konnor Griffin, and on Friday night, he celebrated his 20th birthday by checking a big accomplishment off the list by hitting his first Major League home run.

Griffin’s first home run came off Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff in the top of the third inning, snapping what had been an 0-for-11 slump going into Friday’s game.
Even better for Griffin: It was an opposite-field home run into the Pirates’ bullpen, meaning he did not have to worry about negotiating something to get the baseball back from a fan.
