Two major milestones that Rohit Sharma can surpass in the upcoming test series against Bangladesh

There are some goals for Indian captain Rohit Sharma to pursue as he readies himself for the initial Test against Bangladesh in the two match series that will take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai from Thursday onwards. Starting on September 19 at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, this two-match series will mark its beginning. The second long game will be played on September 27 in Kanpur. New coach Gautam Gambhir intends to start off by winning the series through his first Test assignment.

Presently, Rohit Sharma is placed 12th among all leading run-scorers of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 having scored 700 runs so far from nine matches and 16 innings at an average of 46.66 with three hundred and three half centuries. His highest score is set at 131 runs.

The series has two milestones which Rohit Sharma intends to hit during it. The first of such points will consolidate his position as India’s best-ever six-hitter, once he achieved it. At present, he is at 11th position in global six-hit rankings with 84 sixes included among them. For him to emerge as new cricketer with most sixes for Indian team in Tests, however he must manage to get eight more big hits that can see him overtake legendary Virender Sehwag (91).

England captain Ben Stokes has hit the most number of sixes in the world with 131 while Brendon McCullum (107) and Adam Gilchrist (100) are second and third respectively.

Rohit could join the exclusive club of Test cricketers with 100 sixes if he manages to hit big in these two matches, crossing over from just being an Indian cricketer.

Currently, he has 48 fifties in 483 ODIs making him only two short of achieving his 50th international ton. Notably, that would make him only third Indian after Sachin Tendulkar (100 centuries) and Virat Kohli (80 centuries) to achieve such a feat on this level.

Before New Zealand arrives for their tour starting October 16 as part of this series against Bangladesh, Sharma’s team will also visit Australia for the much awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy contest from November 22nd.

English Captain Ben Stokes (131), former New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Brendon McCullum (107) and iconic Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist (100) are the top three people who have ever accomplished sixes in cricket.

If Rohit can hit a few more big sixes during these two matches, then he is likely to become the fourth player overall and first among Indians to hit a century of sixes in Test cricket.

‘Hitman’ is also fondly referred for nearing half-century mark of centuries in international cricket. Having scored 48 centuries so far across …

For Sharma’s team against it will be followed by three Test series against New Zealand starting October 16 and after that highly awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy series from November 22 Australia will tour India.
