Green Bay Packers Select Jager Burton In The 5th Round Of The 2026 NFL Draft

The Green Bay Packers used their first three selections in the 2026 NFL Draft on defensive players. They took cornerback Brandon Cisse in the second round, defensive tackle Chris McClellan in the third round, and pass rusher Dani Dennis-Sutton in the fourth.

All three of their picks addressed significant needs on their roster. With those positions addressed, Green Bay decided to add some depth to their offensive line in the fifth round.

Finally, in the fifth round of the draft, the Packers looked to add an offensive player. With their fifth round selection, they took Kentucky center Jager Burton:

Per NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein, “Durable fifth-year senior who has made 47 consecutive starts. Burton is built to play center but could offer swing potential at guard. He has adequate play strength and good quickness for a zone-blocking scheme. He gets beaten to first contact by length and will struggle to put up a sustained fight against two-gappers at the point.

“He can slow a bull rush but needs to do a better job of protecting his edges and operating with consistent posture. Burton’s best fit will be with a zone-heavy running game as a late draft pick or undrafted free agent signee.”

The Packers recently signed Sean Rhyan back to a three-year contract to be their starting center. Burton, though, provides them with a backup at the position as well as someone who can give them depth at either guard position.
