TALLADEGA, Ala. — Anthony Alfredo showed competitive speed throughout Saturday’s NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Ag-Pro 300 at Talladega Superspeedway, but a late-race tire issue ultimately resulted in a 31st-place finish for the No. 96 Viking Motorsports Chevrolet.
Alfredo qualified ninth for the event and worked his way to the front of the pack multiple times, showcasing the speed needed to contend at the front of the superspeedway field in the Dude Wipes MentHole-backed entry.
Despite finishing 24th in Stage 1 and 22nd in Stage 2, Alfredo remained in contention and positioned himself well following a green-flag pit cycle with approximately 44 laps remaining, working in coordination with a group of Chevrolet teams.
As the race entered its closing stages, Alfredo had once again put himself in a favorable position before a flat tire forced the No. 96 Dude Wipes Menthol Chevrolet to pit road under green, eliminating any chance of a strong finish.
Unable to recover track position without the benefit of a timely caution, Alfredo was relegated to a 31st-place finish — a result that does not reflect the speed and execution shown by the team throughout the race.
“Had a fast car at Talladega. Got to the front a few times and put ourselves in a great position after the green flag pit stop, but unfortunately, a flat tire forced us to pit road at the end, and we couldn’t catch a break with a caution,” Alfredo said. “Stings to lose another good finish because of a tire failure, but that’s just the way it goes sometimes.”
While the finishing position falls short, the performance reinforces the continued progress of Alfredo and the Viking Motorsports team, who have shown the ability to run with the lead pack on superspeedways.
The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series now shifts to Texas Motor Speedway, where Alfredo and the No. 96 team will look to convert speed into results.
