The Edmonton Oilers are making two big changes ahead of tonight’s near must-win game versus the Anaheim Ducks.
First, there is a change in goal as Tristan Jarry is set to start Game 4 versus the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday night. Jarry, who hasn’t played much at all over the past few weeks has watched Connor Ingram won the starting job and tended goal in the first three games. The Oilers, however, have allowed a ton of goals against and are down 2-1 in the series.
While Jarry’s regular season numbers with the Oilers haven’t been good, Ingram has allowed 11 goals in three games. The Oilers felt a change was needed. They’ll turn to a netminder with a .857 save percentage in 19 games. The hope is that the Oilers find their game and stop leaking chances against. If they continue to give the Ducks multiple shots and Grade A looks, it won’t matter who starts.
What they do know is that if they don’t shut down the Ducks’ attack, Jarry may struggle. It’s going to take a full team effort to even the series.
Meanwhile, head coach Kris Knoblauch also revealed that forward Jason Dickinson is back in. He missed games 2 and 3 with an injury. When asked on Saturday following practice, if he thought he’d be in, Dickinson responded, “I think so. I hope so.” He added, “Today went really well, but this has kind of just been a day-to-day thing that I’m really trying to manage as best I can. If I wake up and I feel great, then I’m definitely going to be playing.”
Dickinson was a trade deadline addition and he’s been more valuable than most would have assumed. He’s one of the team’s better two-way defensive forwards, but just as key, he allows the lines to deployed properly with everyone in the right positions.
