This story comes from Inside The Life Of A Tennis Prodigy | Vlada (The Panther) & Rick Macci Podcast Ep.2, where legendary coach Rick Macci sits down with rising junior Vlada Hranchar for a candid, unfiltered look at what it really takes to build a high-level player from the ground up.
Inside Macci’s Boca Raton-based training academy, a rising junior talent is already thinking like a pro, balancing childhood joy with a work ethic that would make most veterans pause. “You got to have balance and you got to have fun,” Rick Macci says early in the conversation, reinforcing a theme that runs throughout this glimpse into the life of Vlada “The Panther” Hranchar.

That balance was on full display during a recent trip to Disney World, where Vlada embraced the kid side of the equation. “I was like, ‘Oh, no. I I want to get out,’” she said, laughing about a high-speed ride that pushed her comfort zone, before adding, “I see those stars. I see everything.”
But the flip side is relentless structure. Vlada’s daily routine starts before most players are even dreaming about tennis. “I started my day at 3:45 a.m.,” she said, a statement that lands with real weight when you consider her age.
The discipline extends beyond the court and into the classroom, where Vlada shows the same curiosity and drive. “Education is really important for me,” she said, before walking through her love for subjects ranging from math to science to writing.
Her training environment reinforces that mindset. Vlada isn’t just hitting balls—she’s absorbing information, tracking details, and internalizing feedback. “Because I want to write it down and remember it,” she said about keeping a journal, a simple habit that separates players who listen from those who truly learn.
That attention to detail shows up in how she understands movement, one of the core pillars of elite tennis. “Movement is really important for tennis,” she explained in her own straightforward way.

And timing is everything. Macci has long preached tennis as a game of time, and Vlada is already buying in. “Time is like really important because when you play, you ride on the baseline or even inside the baseline,” she said, referencing the idea of taking time away from opponents.
Technically, the growth is happening in small increments, exactly how elite development works. “You just [make] changes just a little bit and then the stroke is like amazing,” she said, describing adjustments to her forehand and volleys.
There’s also a creative edge emerging, particularly in her feel shots. “I love the drop shot,” she said, with a confidence that hints at a player comfortable experimenting and taking risks.
Still, when everything gets stripped down, her motivation is clear and direct. “I love just the competition,” she said.
It’s early in the journey, but the blueprint is visible. Structure, curiosity, resilience, and a genuine love for the fight. Around Macci’s courts, that combination has a track record—and if Vlada keeps stacking days like this, the “Panther” nickname may end up feeling understated.
