The next WWE premium live event will be WWE Backlash, taking place Saturday, May 9, 2026 at the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida, and we now know three matches set for the lineup.
Last week, Jacob Fatu stepped up to Roman Reigns and challenged him for a World Heavyweight Championship match at this show. The Original Tribal Chief told Fatu to think about it for a week and that he would be on Raw to follow up on that. This past Friday Night SmackDown, The Usos were trying to convince their cousin to go after Cody Rhodes and the Undisputed WWE Championship instead of the family in-fighting, but Fatu wasn’t interested in changing his mind. This week, Jimmy and Jey spoke about how dangerous Fatu is and how there needed to be consequences, as if Fatu wins that match, he not only takes the title, but the ula fala and the position of leadership as well. Later on, Fatu and Reigns had an in-ring promo segment, arguing until Fatu locked The OTC in a Tongan Death Grip.

Also made official for Backlash on tonight’s episode was at the beginning of the show, instead, where Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker shared some words about how their alliance broke apart last year. Rollins put over Breakker’s abilities, but also insulted him in saying that he wasn’t even second best of his family after Breakker tried to say Rollins was the #2 best in the world, behind himself. Breakker has a chance to prove Rollins wrong when The Visionary says that Breakker isn’t ready for the top spot yet.

In the women’s division, Becky Lynch put out a challenge to the roster, which was answered by Iyo Sky. The Genius of the Sky nearly got the better of The Man, but Asuka interfered, costing her the match. Asuka then cut a pre-taped promo on how she’ll prove to Iyo at Backlash that she has never been and will never be ready for Asuka, blaming her on breaking up their family (despite how Kairi Sane was released by TKO, not from this angle in storyline)
