Skye Nicolson vs Mariah Turner – Results & Post-Fight Report

Skye Nicolson closed in on a featherweight world title shot with a dominant points win over Mariah Turner in Melbourne on Wednesday.

Nicolson (16-1, 3 KOs) retained her WBC interim featherweight crown winning every round against Turner (12-2, 6 KOs) at The Melbourne Pavilion.

Nicolson’s superior boxing ability was evident from the opening round, keeping her rival at bay off her probing jab.

The 30-year-old southpaw, who won the interim belt with a unanimous decision victory over Yuliahn Luna Avila in December, bloodied the nose of Turner in round three after a series of accurate left hands.

The former world featherweight champion rocked her rival with a straight left hand in the sixth, but ’The Golden Girl’ responded with a left hook of her own which sent Nicolson staggering into the ropes.

The New Zealander’s misery was compounded in the final round when she was deducted a point for use of the her head.

Three scores of 90-89 confirmed victory for Nicolson who called for a showdown with undisputed super bantamweight champion, Ellie Scotney post-fight.

“I want to be undisputed champion of the world,” Nicolson said.

“Ellie Scotney, you’ve got all the belts.

“I’m next in line.

“Let’s make it happen for the fans.”
