EVIL made a statement with his surprise debut on the April 28 edition of WWE NXT, but behind the scenes, one key detail still isn’t locked in, as the company still hasn’t really figured out his name yet.
TC of WrestleVotes took to Twitter and revealed that WWE has yet to finalize what EVIL will actually be called moving forward.
“I’m told WWE has yet to decide on a new name for EVIL.”
That uncertainty was already noticeable during his debut segment. Commentary, led by Vic Joseph, avoided directly calling him EVIL and instead referred to him in broader terms.
“That’s the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion… I don’t know if the gift he gave Tony D’Angelo is a gift of admiration, or pure evil.”
Even WWE’s digital content followed the same pattern. On YouTube previews, he wasn’t named outright, instead being described as a “mysterious new Superstar” during the segment involving Tony D’Angelo.
This all lines up with earlier reports that WWE could repackage him entirely, including potentially dropping the EVIL name once he appeared on television. While he personally chose to start his run in NXT, the company still appears to be figuring out exactly how he’ll be presented long-term. For now, the character is already positioned in a major storyline tied to the mystery box angle, but what he’ll ultimately be called remains up in the air.
Do you think WWE should keep the EVIL name, or would a full repackage be the better move for his run going forward? Sound off in the comments.
