Giants GM Joe Schoen weighed in on a potential reunion with Odell Beckham Jr.
With the NFL Draft in the rearview, Odell Beckham Jr. has once again become a major talking point regarding the New York Giants. As the reunion discourse rages on, one high-ranking member of the organization weighed in with his thoughts.
On April 30th, Giants GM Joe Schoen joined the “NFL Insiders” show to discuss an array of topics. When Beckham’s recent workout was brought up, he quickly downplayed any idea of an imminent move.
“No updates on that,” Schoen said Thursday. “We worked him out a couple weeks ago, and he did a good job in terms of that. We signed a new couple new defensive tackles yesterday so we’re going to continue to always work on the roster regardless of the position and try to upgrade where we can and Odell is a guy we had in for a workout and we’ll continue to have conversations with his camp.”
Beckham missed all of last season due to injury, but is adamant about getting back on the field in 2026.
Odell Beckham Signing ‘More Interesting’ Amid Recent Giants News
When it comes to Beckham signing with the Giants, there has always been one major roadblock. That being the team has already made numerous additions at the position this offseason. Even with New York nabbing Malachi Fields in the draft, one analyst thinks the reunion is more realistic now in light of recent news.
On April 30th, reports emerged that Giants wideout Darius Slayton underwent surgery to address a core injury. He will be sidelined short-term, but is currently expected to be ready to return by the time training camp rolls around.
Not long after the Slayton update emerged, The Athletic’s Ian O’Connor provided his reaction on X/Twitter. He is more intrigued at the idea of a Beckham/Giants reunion now, citing that the free-agent WR had a meeting with head coach John Harbaugh.
Beckham and Harbaugh have past ties, as the former played under the longtime coach during his brief stint with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023.
NFL Insider Believes Odell Beckham Jr. Will Wind up on the Giants
Although there are numerous teams across the NFL that could use WR help, the Giants have been the only team mentioned when it pertains to Beckham. While the team refuses to show their hand, countless people across the league believe the reunion is going to happen.
Last week, ESPN’s Adam Schefter joined “The Pat McAfee Show” to discuss the free agent market. He briefly touched on Beckham, stating that he expects him and the Giants to come to an agreement before the regular season gets underway.
“Odell Beckham Jr. and the Giants, it sounds like they’ll get something done,” Schefter said. “At some point in time here. Odell, there’s a real chance he’ll be back with the Giants.”
Beckham is far from the superstar wideout he used to be, but he could still provide a boost for a team in the right role. He could provide some veteran experience to a young Giants offense while also being a mentor for players like Malik Nabers and Fields.
