Leeds amuse fans with the song they played over the speakers after beating Burnley

Burnley head coach Mike Jackson to Sky Sports, as per BBC Sport’s live blog: “I knew this game could go one of two ways after the last 24 hours. The shock of it got to the group. I had a feeling it could go a little bit like that.

“The first 20 to 25 minutes, we looked a little bit shell-shocked. We grew into the game a little bit more. And then we started the second half pretty well. But you can’t make those errors. Then you’re always up against it.

“We showed little bits after them. But what I’ve said to the guys and it’s been the case all season, we cannot wait to go one or two down to start thinking: now we’ll start. That’s a mentality thing, a confidence thing. That’s something we need to keep working on. The goal now is to win a game between now and the end of the season.

“It’s not my job to beat them up, they’ve been through enough at this moment in time. We need to learn quickly about things like that.”

Jackson, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “We started the game a bit jittery. I knew this could go one of two ways with what has happened in the last 24 hours, and I knew there could be some nerves and anxiety. I think we grew into the game in the back end of the first half and we started the second quite well, but then again, at this level, you can’t give away errors that lead to goals, and ultimately, that has cost us in the end.

“We wait sometimes to get going, to go a goal down and then it is like ‘ok let’s go’. We need to give ourselves a better chance by competing from the start.

“Win a game of football. It is as simple as that. I don’t look at anything else in terms of the outside. Strip it all back and it’s about trying to win a game of football between now and the end of the season, to give our supporters something to hold onto to go into next year. That is the sole focus. It is up to us now as a group of staff to bring these lads together and to try to give them that confidence because it is difficult when you are down there.”

On who is in the frame to take the reins going forward: “This is just coming less than 24 hours. That, for me, is as far away from my thoughts as possible. No one has spoken about anything to do with that. The club and players have had to deal with the manager leaving, who was really close to the group and us.”

Leeds boss Daniel Farke, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “It’s a massive step forward for us. I am proud of the boys because to deliver at the crunch point of the season with the additional load of cup games, to hold the nerves and to take points from the last four Premier League games. This is the crunch period where everybody is normally nervous so to already be on 43 points at this stage feels amazing.

“Many, many compliments to the players for the work ethic, workload, unity and quality for the last weeks but also for showing through the season. We are definitely on a good path.”

On the early goal: “It is always important that you don’t over-motivate and then run into counter-attacks, you need to find a good balance and that is what we did. I like our game management when we scored the second goal. Yes, in the last 15-20 minutes, you could feel it was a bit party atmosphere in the stadium.

“There were lots of players we had to substitute because of load and minor injury problems in the last weeks, but this period is about bringing it over the line and that is what we have done in the last 20 minutes. We will celebrate once it is mathematically done, of course, but we will stay greedy for these types of performances.”

On the goalscorers: Anton [Stach] has this quality, also from the set pieces. He is a key player for us and we missed him a lot in the last weeks and it is a sign of the quality in the group that we have delivered without him.

“[Okafor] his fitness level and work load has improved immensely, his work against the ball. He is a player with big potential and talent, which was always obvious to see throughout his career.

“Even in the last weeks, sometimes his[ Calvert-Lewin] goals from open play were not that impressive, I always liked his workload against the ball. His pressing ability to win headers, be physical and hold up the ball. Fantastic. The inspiration of the second goal with the backheel kick, he also deserves the goal, sometimes you have to fight for it. It’s like a bottle of ketchup, all comes out at the same time, I hope it does for the upcoming games.”
