F1 | Ferrari, Gené hopes for rain: “Otherwise the competitive order is this”
Ferrari continues to finish in third place, always behind a rival — first Mercedes, and now McLaren. The deficit on the straights remains a major factor, and despite the strong updates introduced, the lack of a powerful engine is still being felt in the 2026 season.
Ferrer brand ambassador Marc Gené, speaking to Sky Sport Italia, expressed hope that rain could play a decisive role in Sunday’s race in Miami.
“The competitive order is this. I see McLaren slightly faster than Ferrari. Today Norris made the difference. Tomorrow the weather could change, and if it is wet it could change things a lot because we have no references,” he said.
“It will be interesting to see how the balance of power shifts. If it stays dry, Ferrari needs to do a better job in qualifying, otherwise the race becomes very difficult.”
Marc Genè’s assessment therefore underscores that while Ferrari’s updates have moved them forward, the team remains vulnerable to McLaren’s superior straight-line speed, making unpredictable weather their best ally for a potential victory in the Miami Grand Prix.
