The Green Bay Packers seem to have a clear direction for the wide receiver position. So far this off-season, they have parted ways with Romeo Doubs (free agency) and Dontayvion Wicks (trade). Additionally, they have extended Jayden Reed and are expected to give another contract extension offer to Christian Watson.
With Matthew Golden entering his second season in the NFL, it appears that the Packers are shying away from the “spread-the-wealth” strategy they have employed ever since trading Davante Adams in 2022. Whereas previous seasons left many wondering what the hierarchy was in the room, it is now clear that there are three top options.
But that does not mean the Packers aren’t looking for possible additions.
The Green Bay Packers are hosting Chase Claypool for a tryout
Today, May 1, marks the first day of rookie mini camp in Green Bay. The team is hosting its drafted rookies, as well as those they signed as undrafted free agents. Additionally, they are hosting a handful of veterans for tryouts, including wide receiver Chase Claypool.

There were many Packers fans who wanted the team to draft Claypool in the 2020 NFL Draft. However, Green Bay had some cot Claypool’s character, and opted not to take him at the time.
He ended up getting drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers and put up back-to-back 800+ yard seasons to starts his NFL career. A lack of effort and poor off-field behavior led to the Steelers trading him to the Chicago Bears in 2022.
Claypool did not last long in Chicago either, and was traded to the Miami Dolphins in 2023. That is where he last played in the NFL, having suffered multiple injuries. While he was presumably healthy in 2025, no NFL team wanted him.
Since leaving Pittsburgh, Claypool has put up a grand total of 217 receiving yards.
