Anthony Bowens has an idea — and it’s one that could bring a familiar concept back in a completely new way.
With WWE’s Tough Enough sitting inactive for years, Bowens took to social media to pitch a revival of the format under the All Elite Wrestling banner. But instead of simply copying the old formula, he suggested putting a fresh spin on it tailored for AEW. He laid out the concept directly, even giving it a name that ties into AEW’s identity.
“I want @AEW to bring back OG Tough Enough but call it ‘Becoming The Elite’ or something like that. WBD would love the extra content!”
Bowens also made it clear he wants to be involved if the idea ever becomes reality, pitching himself for a key role in the process.
“Sign me up as a judge/trainer @TonyKhan”
The concept itself isn’t far-fetched. AEW has leaned heavily into digital content and behind-the-scenes programming, and a competition-style show could fit naturally into that ecosystem while also helping develop new talent.
It would also give Warner Bros. Discovery additional weekly content tied directly to AEW, something Bowens clearly sees as a win for both sides. At this point, it’s just a pitch — but it’s one that taps into nostalgia while offering something new at the same time.
