The Pro Pitching Institute: Maintaining Balance Produces Location

A pitcher’s starting position
controls their proprioception and determines how the entire kinetic chain
sequences.

Your Foot Position

Setting your feet one baseball
width apart builds the foundation of your entire delivery.

When your feet are aligned, your
body starts balanced, your movement becomes directional, and your motion has a
chance to sequence

From here, your glove hand connects
everything.

Your Front Foot Lift

At lift, your
front knee stays in front of your front shoulder, your front heel aligns with
your back toes, and your front toes point toward the target

This is what shows up when your
start is right.

Now your body is balanced,
connected, and ready to move forward.

Your Glove Work and Throwing Action

Your glove hand
starts the motion, engages your core, allows the lower body to open, and helps
land your stride

This is where most get it wrong. They
try to “use the lower body,” but the lower body responds to what the upper body
starts.

When timed correctly, your glove hand moves the system, and
energy transfers from the ground, through the core, into the arm.

From there, velocity and command are not forced; they’re
produced.
