Just over ten years old, West Virginia University’s golf program will make its third NCAA tournament appearance in recent years; this time at the Marana Regional. They reached the NCAA championship tournament in 2024.
They’re getting noticed. The Golf Channel asked the question: Is West Virginia becoming a nice story in men’s golf?

I’m proud to be a West Virginia alum.
For a program that has often been overshadowed by bigger-name golf schools in the Big 12, reaching the national stage three times shows that the Mountaineers are no longer just trying to stay relevant—they are building a reputation as a legitimate contender.
1. 2019 – Louisville Regional
WVU earned a No. 8 seed in the Louisville Regional. While the team did not advance to the NCAA Championship, this was the program’s first return to the postseason under the current format.
2. 2024 – Rancho Santa Fe Regional
The Mountaineers earned a No. 10 seed in the Rancho Santa Fe Regional. They finished tied for third, the best in program history at a regional, and advanced to the NCAA Championship for the first time since 1947.
3. 2026 – Marana Regional
For the second time in three years, WVU qualified as a team for the NCAA Tournament. The Mountaineers are the No. 9 seed in the Marana Regional at The Gallery Golf Club in Arizona.
I had the chance to watch the team compete at the Island Resort Intercollegiate last fall, which they won in record-setting fashion.
Let’s Go Mountaineers!
