He may be one of the finest captains in world cricket, but Rohit Sharma isn’t the best decision-taker when it comes to DRS calls and this was proved once again during the India-Bangladesh Test.
On the fourth day of the Test match, Rohit refused to review a caught-behind decision despite being insisted on going upstairs by wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant. Rohit stood his ground, however, when replay of the incident was shown on the screen, the Indian captain had a face-palm moment.
The incident took place in the 62nd over of the innings when Bangladesh’s Hasan Mahmud was facing India’s star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. The delivery from Ashwin produced a steep bounce and hit the batter’s glove before being caught by Pant.
However, it seemed as if the ball had touched the batter’s forearm rather than his glove before getting caught by Pant. The Indian wicketkeeper insisted on taking a DRS but Rohit refused. However, when the replays were shown, it could be seen that the ball had only hit the batter’s glove, so if Rohit would have taken the review then the batter would have been sent back to the dugout by the umpire.
As the replay was showed on the giant screen, Pant even poked the Indian captain saying that the batter was out, he should at least look at the screen.
“Out tha, abe yaar replay dekh to lo (it was out, at least see the replay),” Pant could be heard saying to Rohit.
However, despite Rohit’s DRS blunder, India went on to win the match comfortably by a humongous 280-run margin and took a 1-0 lead in the 2-match series.
