On Saturday morning, the Blue Jays announced that Barger has been activated from the 10-day injured list after missing 30 games after suffering a left ankle sprain on April 4 during a 6-3 loss against the Chicago White Sox.
ROSTER MOVES:
🔹 INF/OF Addison Barger reinstated from the 10-day IL and will be active today
🔹 OF Yohendrick Piñango optioned to Triple-A
The return of Barger will hopefully inject some power into a Blue Jays lineup that has struggled through their opening 38 games in 2026. The Blue Jays’ offence ranks tied for 23rd in home runs with 34, and 27th in runs scored with 149.
Prior to suffering his injury, Barger was off to a slow start in 2026, batting .053 with two RBIs across his first 19 at-bats. A year after slamming 21 home runs, including three more during the Blue Jays’ run to the World Series, expectations were high for the 26-year-old, who possesses some of the best power in the Blue Jays’ organization.
The Blue Jays announced that Barger would be batting second in his return to the lineup on Saturday with Los Angeles Angels’ right-hander Jack Kochanowicz taking the mound. Batting in front of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Kazuma Okamoto should give Barger plenty of pitches to hit as opposing pitchers try to navigate the three power threats.
Piñango batted .423, going 11-for-26 with four RBIs and a .444 on-base percentage. The outfielder showcased strong bat-to-ball skills at the MLB level, striking out only three times across his first 10 games.
Piñango will return to the Bisons, where he batted .288 with three home runs and 13 RBIs over his 22 games in Triple-A this season. With the strong showing, Piñango likely will be the first name selected if the injury bug strikes any of the Blue Jays’ outfielders.
