The Future A’s – Dugout Diary by Joe Boesch

The Future A’s – Dugout Diary by Joe Boesch

The Athletics are currently in first place in the AL West with a 20-18 record, and that’s in part due to the young group of ballplayers that make up the team.

Topps Now chronicled their feats and said this:

Three of the Athletics’ biggest sluggers came together to make franchise history against Texas. Nick Kurtz, Carlos Cortes, and Tyler Soderstrom all went deep within the first seven pitches of what would be an 8-1 win over the Rangers. Entering the game with 9,757 road games played, the Club had never hit three or more home runs in the opening frame.

Additionally, the A’s have a winning history when they played in Oakland, from winning the World Series in 1972, 1973, and 1974 and then again in 1989. They also had success under manager Bob Melvin, who led the team from 2010 to 2021 before leaving to manage the San Diego Padres in 2022. He amassed 853 wins managing the A’s, leading the team to seven postseason appearances and four division titles.

The A’s also became famous by the movie Moneyball, which chronicled Billy Beane’s use of sabermetrics and the financial constraints he had to put a winning team on the field in 2002. With a budget of only $41 million, Beane relied heavily on statistics and signing undervalued players to amass a team that went on to win the American League West title. The years of development have paid off for the A’s, as they look to their future young players and their new home in Las Vegas.

Until then, see you at the park.
