Rajasthan Royals bowling coach Shane Bond admitted that his side had not performed well after their heavy 77-run defeat against Gujarat Titans at their home ground in Jaipur on 9 May.

Rajasthan’s bowlers have struggled in recent matches, conceding more than 200 runs in four consecutive games. Speaking at the post-match press conference after the Gujarat clash, Bond stressed the importance of improving their planning and execution.

“We just haven’t played well enough in conditions that we know. We’ve been outplayed by our opposition,” Bond said. “I look at the bowlers and think they just have to be better, right? You’ve got to think a bit outside the box. There are two things: decision-making and execution. I think tonight you would probably have noticed that the execution just wasn’t consistent enough for long enough. And I think, if you look across the board in the IPL, that’s just been the case.”

Bond also explained how modern T20 cricket is becoming increasingly difficult for bowlers and highlighted the importance of them evolving their skills and trying different methods instead of repeating the same plans in every game.

“The batsmen are coming out, playing ultra-aggressively, and putting pressure on bowlers. So, as a bowler, you’ve got to ask, ‘What can I do differently?’” Bond added. “It’s certainly not easy for the bowlers, but you can either fear it, fear what’s going on out there, or see it as an opportunity to improve and maybe put your name up in lights.”

Rajasthan have currently slipped to fifth position in the points table after suffering five defeats in 11 matches. They will next face Delhi Capitals in Delhi on 17 May.
