Big E speculated that Asuka might leave WWE after her loss against IYO Sky at Backlash.
WWE Backlash featured the culmination of IYO Sky’s heated rivalry against her former mentor, Asuka. The two superstars put on an incredible match, and Sky picked up the victory with a German suplex and moonsault combination in the end.
However, what happened after the match surprised fans, as Asuka broke character and embraced IYO Sky in the ring, sharing an emotional moment. Big E addressed the moment during the WWE Backlash Post-Show and speculated if The Empress of Tomorrow is leaving the promotion after the loss.
“I wonder if this was a goodbye. We have never really seen Asuka this emotional. If this is goodbye, I know she will be dearly missed. She has been a pioneer. She has done truly incredible things in the ring before she even got to WWE, but has further staked her claim as an all-time great here in WWE. I don’t know what this means,” Big E said.
Asuka’s tag team partner, Kairi Sane, was one of the wrestlers released in the post-WrestleMania 42 talent cuts. With reports noting that the promotion asked superstars to take significant pay cuts, what transpired at Backlash gives enough reason to speculate whether the Empress of Tomorrow is truly done with WWE.
